
The Newburyport Public Library was one of the first public libraries in the state of Massachusetts, and it serves the Greater Newburyport region. The Library's collection contains over 115,000 items, including books, videos, maps, dvds, cds, magazines, and many other reference and historical items. Newburyport Public Library is located in a renovated historic 18th century Federalist-style mansion (once the home of merchant Nathaniel Tracy), and it offers a wide range of services throughout the year, catering to all members of the community. The Library hosts a number of events, seminars, and readings, and it serves as a public meeting place.
Residents of Newburyport, or those who have property within the the city of Newburyport are eligible to sign-up for a Library card. Having a Library card gives check-out privaleges to the holder of the card. Library cards from other cities or towns may be registered at the Newburyport Library. People who live outside of the state of Massachusetts may pay $25 per year (per person) for a Newburyport Library card.
