
The MBTA makes it easy to travel between Boston and Newburyport on the Commuter Rail's Newburyport/Rockport Line. Operating out of Boston's North Station, the Commuter Rail has stops in Chelsea, Lynn, Swampscott, Salem, Beverly, North Beverly, Hamilton/Wenham, Ipswich, and Rowley on the ride to Newburyport. The total transit time from Newburyport to Boston in about an hour and five minutes on weekdays.
Passengers on the Newburyport/Rockport Line need to purchase a "Zone 8" ticket to travel between Newburyport and Boston. The peak fare for a Zone 8 ticket is $7.75*, with a monthly pass costing just $250. Zone 8 passes also good for unlimited travel on Local Bus, Subway (Charlie Card), Express Bus, Inner Harbor Ferries, and Commuter Boat. When purchasing a ticket on a train you may be subject to a surcharge if that station has a ticket office or contracted vendor: $2.00 surcharge during peak hours and $1.00 off-peak.
