Ganesh Imports owner Bill Bixby is hoping to inspire other local businesses to help support Newburyport restaurants with his new initiative offering discounted gift cards. For the month of October, anyone that buys a Paddle Inn gift card will receive a 20% discount thanks to Bill. Restaurants in Newburyport are currently surviving on their creative additional outdoor seating—from sidewalks to parking lots to streets—all of which will soon be closed for the season. Bill saw a way to help and stepped in as fellow Newburyport business owner. His store Ganesh—a hip bohemian shop selling clothing, accessories, and home décor—has been a downtown staple for over 30 years with locations in Newburyport and Portsmouth.
How does the initiative work? Bill is donating $1,000 to offset the cost to both patrons and the restaurant in hopes that his idea will help get folks excited to purchase gift cards and inspire other businesses to sponsor similar programs with other restaurants. So to break it down—if you purchase a $100 gift card, it will cost you $80. You can purchase gift cards in $25 increments online through Ganesh Imports or directly from the Paddle Inn. Newburyport’s downtown restaurants are at the heart of this community, and Bill’s initiative aims to help make sure their kitchen lights stay on this winter.
The Paddle Inn is without a doubt one of the coolest places around and absolutely worth purchasing a gift card for! This downtown restaurant offers delicious food, an amazing selection of creative cocktails, and an exceptional staff—all with a cool positive vibe. It is however one of Newburyport’s smallest restaurants, meaning it will be very challenging during the winter months when they lose their outdoor patio tables and have a reduced seating capacity. Paddle Inn Owner, Beau Strum and Co-Owner/Chef, Suzi Maitland are grateful for Bill’s generosity and support and hope his idea takes off for other local establishments.
