Newburyport’s Senior Community Center

A Tremendous Resource for the City of Newburyport

I’ll Meet You at the Senior Center

The Newburyport Senior Community Center is a wonderful asset to the city’s senior citizen population—offering a place to gather, socialize, and attend activities. While the programs and goals of the SCC focus on the elderly community, all ages are welcome to visit and attend events.

The Senior Center, located at 331 High Street, is a newer addition to Newburyport, offering updated amenities both inside and outside. Visitors are welcome to stop in anytime during operating hours, generally Monday-Friday 8 am to 4 pm, to take advantage of these common spaces.

Visitors can stop by their state-of-the-art computer lab to not only take advantage of the free wifi and access to computers but also to get help from a Technology Coach on questions they may have about their personal devices (smartphones, laptops, tablets, etc).

Recognizing the importance of exercise and staying healthy, The Senior Community Center also has a fitness room with five cardio machines that any visitor may use.

For those just hoping to socialize, the Billiard Room is a great option to play a friendly game of pool with peers. Outside the Senior Center, the patio, which has a protective tent, and the portico with bistro tables, are both spaces to gather and spend time with friends.

Along with the gathering spaces that the Senior Community Center offers, there are also daily events and programs put on by the Council On Aging ranging from exercise classes to games like Bridge and Mahjong to support groups. For a full list of activities and events visit the Friends of Newburyport Council On Aging’s Facebook page. The Council on Aging also supports the Senior Center by offering transportation to senior citizens and disabled non-elders daily. To request transportation call 978-462-0430 at least 24 hours in advance.

The Senior Community Center opens up its spaces for rental opportunities for events or meetings outside of regular business hours—after 4 pm on weekdays and from 7 am to 12 am on weekends. There are multiple options, from renting out the dining room and professorial grade kitchen to hosting a smaller reception in a common room. The Community Center also has 98 parking spaces to accommodate guests. To inquire about rentals email cmanning@cityofnewburyport.com.

For local businesses and residents that would like to volunteer their time or resources, reach out to the Senior Center directly at 978-462-0430.
