Let’s get ready to Burn Baby Burn those well-loved Christmas Trees at the Old Newbury Bonfire on January 18th from 3- 9 pm! There is not a definitive start time for the bonfire but it typically starts around 5 pm. In honor of the original purchase of Newbury, MA in 1701, the 9th Annual Old Newbury Bonfire benefits the Newbury Volunteer Fire Department.
The event is held on January 18th, but if you’re interested in including your Christmas Tree in this community, 3-story bonfire you must drop it off by January 17th at one of the following locations.
- Newbury Fire Department: 3 Morgan Avenue, Newbury
- Byfield Fire Department: 44 Central Street, Newbury
- Pipe Stave Hill: 693 Main Street, West Newbury

If you are a Newburyport resident, make sure to put your tree out by January 14th and Mello Disposal will transport it to the Bonfire. Please do not bag your tree and make certain all ornaments have been removed.
The 9th Annual Old Newbury Bonfire is hosted by Protection # 2 Newbury’s Volunteer Fire Company, along with Historic New England and Tendercrop Farm. Join your friends and family for music, games, food, drinks and fun at an event that is becoming a Greater Newburyport Winter tradition.
This event is free but there is a $10 per car parking fee. This has become such a popular event that there is now an option to purchase your parking pass in advance.
Tours will be available from 3-5 pm of the 1690 Spencer Peirce Little Farm House. At 5 PM the auction for the opportunity to be one of the two official bonfire lighters will be announced! Other prizes include a ride to school on a fire truck, cords of wood, local art and more.
