Jersey Mike's Subs Offers Fresh Quality Sandwiches and Community Outreach
Local couple Kane and Kate Mosteller, bring the garden state’s iconic submarine sandwich to Newburyport, opening a Jersey Mike’s Subs on Storey Ave. Known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, Jersey Mike’s adds a delicious and healthy option to the area.
Jersey Mike’s has a menu as big as the subs they’re whipping up, with both hot and cold options. Try out local flavors like the Jersey Shore’s Favorite or the Big Kahuna Cheese Steak. They even offer catering and boxed lunches, as well as a kids menu with mini sub options.
While the Mostellers consider themselves locals having lived in the area for so long, Kane actually grew up in New Jersey, right next to the original Jersey Mike’s Subs. Anyone that knows the state, knows just how seriously residents take their delis and meats. Mosteller family trips back to visit and summer vacations at the shore always included a stop for an infamous sub. And so the idea came to Kane and Kate—what if they brought these addictive subs back home with them! Newburyport was the obvious choice to open a location.
Along with serving up tasty meals, Jersey Mike’s Subs has a long history of giving back to the community, something the Mosteller’s plan on keeping up with—holding fundraisers, promotion and donating throughout the year. One of the main focuses? Local schools and sports programs, an area that hits close to home for both the Mostellers’ and Jersey Mike’s. Kane and Kate’s son Ethan is a senior at Triton Regional High School and member of the school’s baseball team. He’s also a sailing instructor at Ipswich Junior Sailing. Supporting programs like these are a main focus for the new local sub shop.
Jersey Mike’s support for schools and athletics all stems from the history of the company. The CEO and Founder, Peter Cancro, purchased the original location in Point Pleasant, New Jersey back in 1971. He had worked for the shop since he was 14 and when he heard it was up for sale, the young entrepreneur knew he wanted to buy the sub shop—he was only 17. Peter turned to his football coach for help. His coach backed his loan and Peter became the owner of Jersey Mike’s Subs, growing it into what it is today.
Much like Peter, the Mostellers are taking a leap bringing this sub shop to the area. As former marketing and advertising executives, Jersey Mike’s Subs is their first dip into the restaurant and service industry. Make sure to pop in and try out a submarine to support this local couple—you won’t be disappointed!
