The Joy Nest, Newburyport's Jazzy Prohibition Era Thai Restaurant
No secret password is necessary to enter The Joy Nest—a Thai restaurant, located in Newburyport’s Tannery, that combines the delicious street vendor foods of Bangkok with a jazzy speakeasy ambience. Just like the underground bars of the Prohibition era, The Joy Nest is a restaurant you will want to meet your friends at, a place to make new ones, and an atmosphere that invites you to hang out longer than you planned.
While Thai food is on the menu at The Joy Nest, it’s not your traditional samplings. Slide into a velvet seat indoors or grab a spot on their sidewalk patio to enjoy Thai tapas and noodle soups with a street food twist. Much like the social ambience of this Thai restaurant, the small plate options like house-made fried dumplings and pork skewers encourage patrons to try a variety of different things and share plates together.
Perhaps equally as enticing on the menu are the drinks. The creative cocktail list features a variety of drinks worthy of any speakeasy that are not only delicious to sip on but fun to watch being made by the Joy Nest mixologists behind the bar. Along with cocktails, the restaurant also offers an extensive wine list.
Visit on Wednesdays and head upstairs when this Thai restaurant kicks it up a notch with live jazz beginning at 7 pm. Reservations are highly recommended as these events are popular.
Planning a party? The Joy Nest hosts private functions in their upstairs area. Inquire directly for pricing and availability.
The Joy Nest is the second restaurant owner Caroline Jolliffe has brought to Newburyport. Directly across the street, Caroline also owns and operates Brown Sugar, a more traditional Thai restaurant serving familiar Thai comfort foods.
