Port Pizza & Subs Specializes in Homemade Meals Made Well
Port Pizza & Subs, a family business owned and operated by local Newburyport husband and wife duo Robert and Kelli Hartley, serves up delicious pizza, subs, and homemade meals. The restaurant prides itself on offering simple food made well.
Customers can choose from take out or delivery, or even dine in–Port Pizza & Sub has five tables, a counter area and offers additional outdoor seating seasonally.
What makes Port Pizza & Subs food standout? Robert, a trained chef, runs the kitchen and personally created the menu. All pizzas are made from scratch with homemade dough, homemade sauce, and freshly grated cheese. Choose to top your pies with additional fresh ingredients like BBQ or buffalo chicken, veggies, and more.
Along with homemade pies, Port Pizza & Subs offers a huge menu with a variety of quality food. If you opt for a turkey sub you will be treated to their in-house roasted turkey. The eggplant—which can be a main dish or top other menu items like subs and pizza—is sliced, hand breaded, and flash fried right in the kitchen. Other top dishes include homemade meatballs and marinara, from scratch chicken broccoli alfredo, and marinaded steak tips in the restaurant’s own sauce.
Owners, Robert and Kelli, are Massachusetts natives from Rockport. Growing up, Kelli’s parents owned a restaurant, so she grew up in the business, working for her parents and waiting tables for various restaurants when she was older.
Robert worked for top restaurants as a chef and executive chef before moving to the restaurant corporate world for more stability. The Hartleys, along with their two daughters Ava and Ella, have moved around from Hawaii to Chicago to Miami following Robert’s career, before returning home to Massachusetts and setting up roots in Newburyport.
Port Pizza & Subs, the name is a nod to the town they call their permanent home, is a return to a place in the industry where Robert and Kelli feel most comfortable—in an actual restaurant.
Because Robert and Kelli are residents raising their family in Newburyport, they are passionate about Port Pizza & Subs giving back to the local community. You will find their homemade pies at local high school games, the restaurant hosting students for pasta parties, and their homemade food catering senior events in town.
Located in the Market Basket plaza on Storey Ave, be sure to stop in and say hi, where you will find Robert cooking in the kitchen while Kelli handles the front, a perfect team!
