Native Sun Brings Contemporary Fashion Brands to Downtown Newburyport

Native Sun, an award-winning boutique, is the place to shop for contemporary fashion brands in downtown Newburyport. Shoppers can expect to find a wide selection of clothing and denim, along with accessories and gift items, by popular designers like Michael Stars, Splendid, Free People, and Nicole Miller. The boutique promises a wide variety of styles and price points to meet all customers’ needs.

Native Sun,  originally established in 1989, reopened as a pop-up experiment by owners John and Lisa Darke after repeatedly hearing from past patrons how much they missed the shop. Following a very successful few months, Native Sun is here to stay as a permanent storefront at 20 Pleasant Street in downtown Newburyport. What’s different this time around?

“The shop is that much better with us having so many more years of experience under our belt. We’ve honed in on the best of the best,” explains Lisa.

John and Lisa, who also own Newburyport’s Nauti Pearl, designed Native Sun as an experience—offering top-notch customer service and a broad selection of designer clothing that appeal to a range of ages. A mother and daughter can stop in together, both finding the perfect age-appropriate looks for their budget.

And if you’re not sure where to start, consider asking for help! Native Sun manager, Becky Colby doubles as an amazing stylist. She will have you try on items you may not pick out on your own but will look fantastic in. Feel free to simply stop in anytime Tuesday through Saturday to take advantage of Becky’s styling help or call ahead to book an appointment.

Native Sun began back in 1989 when John was straight out of college. John, who had been selling his line of jewelry at a showroom in Salisbury, set up a stand at Newburyport’s popular Yankee Homecoming Festival. After selling more in that one week than he had all year at his showroom, John took a leap and opened a storefront in the coastal town—Native Sun was born. What began as a shop filled with imported clothing and jewelry morphed into what it is today. A boutique that John and Lisa both agree is better than ever.
