There are so many great annual Halloween events in Newburyport that the city has become known as a destination for Halloween fun. Some of the most popular events are Halloween traditions that count on each year, like Witches Night Out and Downtown Trick or Treat. There are also a variety of additional events hosted by various local organizations both in Newburyport and surrounding towns. For a complete list of Halloween Events and more detailed information on the events featured in this article, check the Newburyport.com Events Calendar.

Witches Night Out is one of the Halloween events that seems to grow in popularity each year.  More and more, people are coming to Newburyport dressed for the occasion and ready to enjoy a fun night of shopping, drinks, and snacks at many of the local Newburyport retailers.  On Friday night, October 22nd from 6-9 pm, folks shop and show off their costumes along the main streets of downtown Newburyport as well as the Tannery Marketplace. Although you will spot a few very young witches early in the evening, this event is geared more towards the adults. The highlight for many is a visit to Partridge in a Bear Tree, known for their cool Halloween decorations and a lively vibe.

Maudslay is Haunted is hosted by Theater in the Open, featuring a walking tour of short spooky skits.  From start to finish you should allow at least an hour and a half to take this haunted tour.  This event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 23rd and 24th from 1:30-4 pm.  There is a rain date of October 30th. You can purchase tickets upon arrival at this event.

On Saturday, October 23rd from 2-5 pm the Newburyport Parks Department and Mom Comm will host Pumpkin Palozza, a new family Halloween event on Bartlet Mall. Planned activities include: Pumpkin Carving Contest & Decorating, Hay Rides, Trick or Treating, Vendor Booths, Costume Parade, Kids Yoga, Graveyard Tours & Music and even a Beer Garden for the adults. Make sure to visit the Newburyport.com Events calendar for a complete list as there are quite a few fun Halloween events happening in the surroundings towns as well.

The Newburyport Downtown Trick or Treat takes place from 4-5 PM on Friday, October 29th.  Families with small children are encouraged to come show off their Halloween costumes and enjoy treats from local Downtown and Tannery retailers.  This is a wonderful opportunity for parents with small children to ease their way into trick or treating while introducing them to Newburyport’s fun Halloween events!

If your in search of Halloween costume parties geared for adults there are two great options both starting at 8 pm on Saturday, October 30th. The Plum Island Bachcoma is featuring their All Hallows’ Eve Costume Party and My Salisbury Beach is hosting their annual Halloween Costume Ball at Blue Ocean Event Center.

The Newburyport Halloween festivities finish with the City of Newburyport’s official Trick or Treating which happens on Sunday, October 31st from 5:30-7:30 PM.  Before all of the fun ends we highly recommend a drive around town to check out some of the exceptionally spooky homes, especially 13 Tilton Street!

There are a few Halloween Events that were popular in past years and may return in the future but are not happening in 2021 including: the Newburyport Pumpkin Lighting and the Scarecrow Contest. Newburyport.com receives inquiries about these events so we we have kept prior year videos of these events on our site for Halloween fans to view.
