There are so many great annual Halloween events in Newburyport that the city has become known as a destination for Halloween fun. Some of the most popular events are Halloween traditions that count on each year, like Witches Night Out and Downtown Trick and Treat. There are also a variety of additional events hosted by various local organizations both in Newburyport and surrounding towns. For a complete list of Halloween Events and more detailed information on the events featured in this article, check the Newburyport.com Events Calendar. Download the Newburyport App for a direct link to quickly view events.

Witches Night Out is one of the Halloween events that seems to grow in popularity each year.  More and more, people are coming to Newburyport dressed for the occasion and ready to enjoy a fun night of shopping, drinks, and snacks at many of the local Newburyport retailers.  On Friday night, October 14th from 6-9 pm, folks will shop and show off their costumes along the main streets of downtown Newburyport as well as the Tannery Marketplace. Although you will spot a few very young witches early in the evening, this event is geared more towards the adults. The highlight for many is a visit to Partridge in a Bear Tree, known for their cool Halloween decorations and a lively vibe.

If you’re in search of Halloween costume parties geared for adults  Saturday, October 29th, The Plum Island Bachcoma is featuring their annual Costume Party from 7:30 – 11:30 pm and My Salisbury Beach is hosting their annual Rockin’ Halloween Costume Ball from 8 – 11 pm at Blue Ocean Event Center in Salisbury. On Sunday, October 30th we suggest the RiverWalk Brewing Halloween Party from 5-9 pm.

Maudslay is Haunted is hosted by Theater in the Open, featuring a walking tour of short spooky skits.  From start to finish you should allow at least an hour and a half to take this haunted tour.  This event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 22nd and 23rd from 1:30-4 pm.  There is a rain date of October 29th. You can purchase tickets upon arrival at this event. We also recommend a visit to the Chapel at Oak Hill Cemetery for POE in Newburyport on Thursday, October 27th at 6 pm or 8 pm.

The Newburyport Downtown Trick or Treat takes place from 4-5 PM on Friday, October 28th.  Families with small children are encouraged to come show off their Halloween costumes and enjoy treats from local Downtown and Tannery retailers.  This is a wonderful opportunity for parents with small children to ease their way into trick or treating while introducing them to Newburyport’s fun Halloween events! For Halloween 2022, the City of Newburyport has decided to to join the fun hosting a Trick or Treat Event on Thursday, October 26th from 5-6 pm at City Hall.

The Newburyport Halloween festivities finish with the City of Newburyport’s official Trick or Treat which happens on Monday, October 31st from 5:30-7:30 PM.  Amesbury, Salisbury and Newbury are also hosting their trick or treat on the 31st from 5:30 – 7:30. West Newbury trick or treat is from 5-7 pm.

Although most of the Halloween events are either designed for adults or for kids, the Beach Dog Daycare runs an annual Top Dog Halloween Costume Contest that we high recommend checking out.

Before all of the fun ends we highly recommend a drive around town to check out some of the exceptionally spooky homes, especially Newburyport’s Haunted House, 13 Tilton Street!

Newburyport.com receives inquiries during the Halloween season asking about a couple of very popular prior year events: the Newburyport Pumpkin Lighting & the Scarecrow Contest. We can’t tell you whether these events will be brought back to life, but you can still enjoy some prior year videos. Why can’t we answer this question? Newburyport.com does not involved in the planning of any events, but we are the Greater Newburyport source for information about local events. If you really enjoy the creative scarecrows we highly recommend visiting Amesbury and Salisbury to check out their Scarecrow Contests.
