There are so many great annual Halloween events in Newburyport that the city has become know as destination for Halloween fun. Decorations go up each year at the annual Fall Harvest Festival. The 2018 festivities will be held October 7th and 8th, hosted by the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and featuring live entertainment, food vendors and all sorts of shopping.  The lampposts are decorated with very creative scarecrows that are sponsored by local small business owners. Join Untapped History this October, for candlelight lead tours through Newburyport and share some of the strange, spooky and historically accurate tales of the ‘Port and New England! Beware Newburyport! Tales of shipwrecks, witches, unexplained hauntings and vampire epidemics. These special tours will be held October, 13th, 20th and 27thBook your candlelight tour today, if you dare!

Witches Night Out is one of the Halloween events that seems to grow in popularity each year.  More and more people are coming to Newburyport dressed for the occasion and ready to enjoy a fun night of shopping, drinks and snacks at many of the local Newburyport retailers.  On Friday night, October 19th from 6-9 pm, folks shop and show off their costumes along the main streets of downtown Newburyport as well as the Tannery Marketplace.  The highlight for many folks is a visit to Partridge in a Bear Tree, famous for having the most unique Halloween decorations in area, and all other holidays too.  Although you will spot a few very young witches early in the evening, this event is geared more towards the adults.  As the shopping winds down, the Witches & Warlocks head to the 2nd floor of The Grog at 9 pm for a fun Halloween Costume Contest at 9:15 pm.

Maudslay is Haunted is hosted by Theater in the Open featuring a walking tour of short spooky skits.  From start to finish you should allow at least an hour and a half take this haunted tour.  This event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 20th and 21st from 1:30-4 pm.  There is a rain date of October 27th. You can purchase tickets upon arrival at this event.

The Newburyport Downtown & Tannery Trick or Treat takes place from 4-5 PM on Friday, October 26th.  Families with small children are encouraged come show off their Halloween costumes and enjoy treats from local retailers.  This is a wonderful opportunity for parents with very small children to ease their way into trick or treating while introducing them to Newburyport’s fun Halloween events!

Start your Halloween with Maritime Trick-or-Treat at the Custom House Maritime Museum from 10 am – 4 pm on October 31st. Mom’s, Dads and Grandparents are encourage to bring kids in costume for a free visit to the museum. Ring the giant ship’s bell and scare the ghosts and goblins! Find a treasure chest treat! Plus Halloween coloring, jokes and riddles!

Anna Jaques Hospital features an annual Halloween Party on their front lawn at 25 Highland Avenue. The party runs from 4:30 – 7 pm on October 31st, giving folks enough time to stop at the Hospital before the official start of trick-or-treating. Other families just make it part of their trick-or-treating route. Enjoy hot dogs, popcorn, candy, hot chocolate, apple cider, cotton candy and the bouncy house!

The Newburyport Halloween festivities finish with the City of Newburyport official Trick or Treating which happens on Wednesday, October 31st from 5:30-7:30 PM.  Before all of the fun ends we highly recommend a drive around town to check out some of the exceptionally spooky homes!

If your trying to find information about the Newburyport Pumpkin Lighting & Stroll, this event is not on the calendar for 2018, but was extremely popular so we hear there is consideration to bring it back in future years.  People from Newburyport and the surrounding area carved their pumpkins and brought them to Market Square to be proudly featured on hay bails in the center of the square.  Spectators enjoyed Halloween music while viewing hundreds of uniquely carved Jack-O-Lanterns.  This showcase featured an extremely eclectic array of designs.  Everything form ornate etched creepy carvings to super hero’s,  Scooby Doo and really cool ghosts, bats and more.

Yankee Homecoming Brewfest

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. Get ready for the 2018 Yankee Homecoming Brewfest on July 28, from 5 – 9 pm. Brewfest takes place along the beautiful shoreline of the Merrimack River under a huge tent located next to the Newburyport the boardwalk. Yankee Homecoming Brewfest is the ideal opportunity to satisfy your curiosity about local craft beers, discover some new breweries or revisit some of your favorite brews! The event is host to over 20 local and regional breweries featuring over 40 local craft beers and ciders. Come sample some new styles and varieties of craft beers and view the list of participating breweries below.

Brewfest will features awesome live music courtesy of Freevolt and there will also be food available from Domino’s and the Deck. The huge tent that is set up for the event means Brewfest will happen rain or shine!

While Yankee Homecoming features many events for families and people of all ages, Brewfest is a really fun occasion for adult only! Only folks aged 21+ with a valid form of identification will be admitted.  No children or pets are permitted. Make sure to purchase tickets for Yankee Homecoming Brewfest as soon as possible because this popular event sells out every year.

Over 20 local and regional breweries will be present at the Yankee Homecoming Brewfest including:  Allagash Brewing Company, Bell’s Brewing, Blue Point Brewery, Cigar City Brewing, Cisco Brewers, Downeast Cider House, Elysian Brewing Co., Global Beer Network, Goose Island, Guinness, Half Bottle Cans, House Bear Brewing, Kona Brewing Company, Newburyport Brewing Co., New Belgium Brewing, Oskar Blues Brewing, RiverWalk Brewing, Shock Top, Smirnoff Seltzer, Stella Artois, Tröegs Brewing Company, True North Ale Company, Wachusett Brewing Company and Wormtown Brewery. Make sure to check back as the list of confirmed participants will continue to increase.
