Halloween Events – Annual Newburyport Traditions

Witches Night Out is one of the Halloween events that seems to grow in popularity each year.  More and more, people are coming to Newburyport dressed for the occasion and ready to enjoy a fun night of shopping, drinks, and snacks at many of the local Newburyport retailers.  On Friday night, October 13th from 6-9 pm, folks will shop and show off their costumes along the main streets of downtown Newburyport as well as the Tannery Marketplace. Although you will spot a few very young witches early in the evening, this event is geared more towards the adults. The highlight for many is a visit to Partridge in a Bear Tree, known for their cool Halloween decorations and a lively vibe.

Maudslay is Haunted is hosted by Theater in the Open, featuring a walking tour of short spooky skits.  From start to finish you should allow at least an hour and a half to take this haunted tour.  This event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 21st and 22nd from 1:30-4 pm.  There is a rain date of October 28th. You can purchase tickets upon arrival at this event. We also recommend a visit to the Chapel at Oak Hill Cemetery for POE in Newburyport on Sunday, October 15th at 6:30 pm or 8 pm.

Newburyport Downtown Trick or Treat will be hosted from 4 – 5 pm on Friday, October 27th. One of Newburyport’s most cherished Halloween Events and family traditions, parents are encouraged to bring their witches, ghosts, pirates, dinosaurs, super-heroes and all creative characters to come show off their Halloween costumes and enjoy treats from local Downtown restaurants and retailers.

Halloween Events – Popular Adult Costume Events

If you’re in search of Halloween costume parties geared for adults  Saturday, October 28th, Newburyport Brewing Company is featuring their annual Costume Party featuring The Rolling Who from 6-9  pm and My Salisbury Beach is hosting their annual Rockin’ Halloween Costume Ball starting at 8 pm at Blue Ocean Event Center in Salisbury, featuring entertainment by WildFire.

Halloween Events & Fun for Dogs & Dog Lovers

Although most of the Halloween events are either designed for adults or for kids, the Beach Dog Daycare runs an annual Top Dog Halloween Costume Contest that we high recommend checking out.

Newburyport.com receives inquiries during the Halloween season asking about a couple of very popular prior year events: the Newburyport Pumpkin Lighting & the Scarecrow Contest. We can’t tell you whether these events will be brought back to life, but you can still enjoy some prior year videos. Why can’t we answer this question? Newburyport.com does not involved in the planning of any events, but we are the Greater Newburyport source for information about local events. If you really enjoy the creative scarecrows we highly recommend visiting Amesbury and Salisbury to check out their Scarecrow Contests.
