From the beach shores of Plum Island to the Clipper City Rail Trail and Harbor Walk, there’s no shortage of things to do in Newburyport. The Clipper City Rail Trail is a 1.1 mile multi-use path that runs from the MBTA to the Merrimack River shoreline near downtown. You can run, walk or bike all while accessing your favorite spots and discovering new ones. It connects to ample side streets for shops and attractions. You can reach Graf Ice Skating Rink or Cashman Park.
Maudslay State Park and the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge are both attractions highly ranked by the National Park Service. The Maudslay State Park features 19th century gardens, undulating meadows and large pines. There are miles of trails for walking, biking and horseback riding. Families can also enjoy picnics among nature. Parker River boasts gentle terrain with dunes, shrubs and freshwater marshes. The Market Square Historic District is just one of the many Newbuyport treasures on the National Register of Historic Places. This district is comprised of federal style brick buildings. It’s also home to the US Custom House, which is a classical revival building. The Custom House is now the Custom House Maritime Museum, showcasing the maritime heritage of the Merrimack Valley.
